Our Young Athletes Programme encourages athletes from the age of 4 to become active, have fun and introduces fundamental movement and sport skills.
We introduce sport skills through play activities in a fun, lively and supportive environment. Athletes learn to interact with each other, follow directions and develop their physical and communication skills. Family members are also introduced to a supportive network within Rebel Rockets and Special Olympics Ireland. Due to the young age of our athletes we require a parent / guardian to remain on site for the duration of the session.
This is a Learning to Swim and Introduction level. This is for athletes who cannot swim / float independently and must be accompanied by a parent / guardian in the pool to assist with the lesson. Our qualified instructor accompanies the athletes and their parents / guardians in the pool to provide direction and support.
This is a beginners level and the athlete is unaccompanied in the pool by a parent / guardian. Our qualified instructor accompanies the athlete in the pool to provide the lesson.
This is an improvers level and the athlete is unaccompanied in the pool by a parent / guardian. Our qualified instructor accompanies the athlete in the pool to provide the lesson.
For Level 2 and 3 we request that a parent / guardian remains at poolside for the duration of the lesson.
This parent / guardian must be a registered volunteer with Special Olympics Ireland to comply with our Child Safeguarding policies and practices. Please see Join Our Club for more details about how to become a registered volunteer.
Our Basketball skills club teaches athletes from the age of 8. Athletes will learn the skills to dribble the ball, pass and catch the ball and to shoot the ball. These skills develop coordination and will be used when athletes progress to team playing within our club and to potentially compete in their sporting future at a Special Olympics level. We teach these skills in a fun, lively and supportive environment. Family members are also introduced to a supportive network within Rebel Rockets and Special Olympics Ireland. Due to the young age of our athletes we require a parent / guardian to remain on site for the duration of the session.
We are currently in the process of starting a golf club which we propose to operate over summer months initially to keep our athletes involved in sport and fitness over the summer and to maintain the friendships they have developed. Initially this will be teaching the skills required for golf and then progressing to playing on a golf course.
We will update this section as details are finalised.
We are currently reviewing the option of starting a soccer club. Initially this will be teaching football skills with the plan to progress to team playing for the club.
